Elite Spinal Physiotherapy is a niche back pain clinic. Many of the practitioners have a particular interest in women’s health including prenatal and postnatal related pain and conditions. Pilates is a form of exercise that is safe and beneficial to do throughout all stages of pregnancy.
We also recommend postnatal Pilates for women who are dealing with Diastasis Rectus Abdominis (abdominal wall separation), pelvic floor weakness and incontinence issues.
Pregnancy related low back pain is a common complaint that occurs in 60-70% of pregnancies and can begin at any point during pregnancy. Although most cases are mild, approximately one third of women experience severe pain.

Research that has been published from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has shown that:
- Women with uncomplicated pregnancies should be encouraged to engage in aerobic and strength and conditioning exercises before, during and after pregnancy
- Regular physical activity during pregnancy improves or maintains physical fitness, helps with weight management, reduces the risk of gestational diabetes and enhances psychological well-being
Our classes are small (4 people max) and are all run by leading Physiotherapists. This is important as modifications to exercises may be necessary due to normal anatomical and physiological changes that happen during pregnancy and to ensure a safe and effective workout.
