Elite Spinal Scoliosis Treatment Plan
Initial Consultation
The initial consultation aims to provide you with a thorough assessment, helping us determine your unique curve pattern type using the Rigo Classification (BSPTS). We’ll then outline a treatment plan based on three key steps:
01
Learning your new posture
02
Integrating your new posture into daily life
03
Maintaining your new posture
For more details about what happens during the initial consultation, visit What to Expect During Your Initial Consultation for a full description.

Learning Your New Posture
In this phase, we’ll teach you how to adopt and maintain your new posture using Physiotherapy Scoliosis-Specific Exercises (PSSE). PSSE has been proven to reduce the risk of curve progression in curves under 25 degrees and prevent progression in curves over 25 degrees when combined with other treatments, such as bracing in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis.
During this phase, we use Schroth-based exercises in unloaded positions to expand your spine and ribcage in 3D, creating symmetry. This process typically takes 4–6 weeks of physiotherapy appointments and requires some home practice. Once you can independently correct and maintain your curve, you’ll be ready to move on to the next phase.
Integrating Your New Posture Into Daily Life
Here, we’ll help you incorporate the skills from Phase 1 into your everyday activities. You’ll work on functional movements like squatting, lunging, and overhead pressing while maintaining your spinal corrections. Resistance training will also be introduced to strengthen your body and test your ability to maintain your posture under load.
This typically takes another 4–6 weeks of physiotherapy appointments. Once you can perform basic functional movements with proper spinal control, you’ll progress to the final phase.

Maintaining Your New Posture
This phase will look different for everyone as it’s tailored to your personal goals and focuses on maintaining and building upon the progress you’ve made in the previous phases. The most common strategies include:
1. Pilates classes at Elite Spinal Scoliosis:
Small classes (maximum of 4 people) that provide a fun and engaging way to continue your scoliosis rehabilitation.
2. A complete home exercise program tailored to you:
A personalised program with one-on-one check-ins every 6–12 weeks to adjust exercises and provide manual therapy as needed.
Important Note
If you’re experiencing pain related to your scoliosis, we may recommend manual therapy with one of our scoliosis specialist physiotherapists before starting Phase 1. This ensures your pain is well managed before beginning your rehabilitation journey.
